Spend it well with Marks & Spencer

Have you ever kept something for best? If so, Marks & Spencer want you to change your ways with their new Spend It Well campaign and make every day special

Holding out for an invite to wear that dress? Saving that seriously tempting dinner idea for a particular occasion? We’re all guilty of waiting for special opportunities to present themselves to us, but isn’t it time we carved out those memorable moments for ourselves? To make the ordinary feel extra-ordinary?

Marks & Spencer seems to think so. The nation’s best-loved retailer has taken it upon itself to give us all a little wake-up call – just in time for summer.  Its newly-launched Spend It Well campaign is encouraging all of us to seize the moment and make things that otherwise might pass us by truly matter.

To get in this headspace, a good place to start is by treating yourself – and not to the sensible items you believe you should be buying. Who decreed that you have to save a fabulous dress for best, rather than rocking it to work on a Wednesday? And who said that you should put up with uncomfortable shoes, when the pair that make you feel great are sitting right under your feet? It’s time to stop holding back – life is short, after all.

The same school of thought applies to food. When you work hard all day, your lunch break should be a rewarding and tasty treat, not a daily exercise in willpower. A midweek dinner can be cause for celebration: a toast to a productive day; to light evenings; to feelgood food.

From now on there are no excuses: take the challenge and see how rewarding yourself makes you feel. An ideal place to start is with pick-me-ups for your wardrobe, so shop our edit below…

Flared sleeve dress, £45

The little black dress will never be dead, but its little pink sister is really capturing our imagination. This dreamy design is playful yet flattering – an invitation to a good time. Throw the mother of all parties in it, or style it casually over a rollneck or contrasting Breton stripes. Just don’t make it play a waiting game in the back of your wardrobe.

Ruffle sleeve blouse, £27.50

We can’t rely on good weather, make it your job to bring a little ray of sunshine into the everyday. This vibrant top, in canary yellow and with ruffled sleeves, does a sterling job. Sport it with pride and never, ever apologise for being bold.

Embroidered balcony bra, £27.50

Feeling good starts with great foundations, and there’s no better investment than form-fitting underwear. Rosie Huntington-Whiteley’s range for M&S not only provides essential support, but looks the part too.

Cotton flared sleeve t-shirt, £25

A classic white tee is a summer staple but this one has a bit of an edge to dial up the fashion-factor. With flared sleeves – a huge Spring/Summer ’17 trend – this is one that should be on heavy rotation all summer long.
